African American women suffer a disproportionate burden of heart attack mortality. Although research has theorized that more lives could be saved if people sought treatment faster, African American women tend to delay seeking treatment from the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Because research on the causes of delay among this population is scant, the purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study
